What is Minoxidil?
Minoxidil is probably the most widely known treatment for hair loss thanks to Rogaine. Rogaine is a brand name for minoxidil. Minoxidil is the only drug FDA approved to regrow hair in men and women. The typical treatment comes in a 2% solution for men and women. There is also a 5% Extra Strength solution for men, but it is not reccomended for women. Minoxidil works by dialating the blood vessels in the scalp to increase blood flow to the hair follicles, the result is hair growth. Results usually take place after several months of daily use. A common side effect was that patients noticed hair growth. Minoxidil is the only approved hair loss treatment. Since there is no cure for hair loss.
